42-1: Error concerning 'MFC42.DLL' after installing Easy CD Creator 4.0... (Article #990903-0001)

Description:
I get an error "Database file linked to a missing export file MFC42.DLL" or "Ordinal xxxx could not be located in MFC42.DLL" after I install Easy CD Creator 4.0. How can I resolve this?

This information applies to the following product(s):

- Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4x Suite – Easy CD Creator Deluxe

This information applies to the following Operating System(s):

- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows NT 4

Solution:
This error can be caused by conflicting versions of the "mfc42.dll" being installed in various locations on your system. Follow these steps to resolve the error:
  1. Go the "Start" menu on your taskbar and select "Find" - "Files and Folders"
  2. In the "Find: All Files" dialog window type "mfc42.dll" in the "Named" field
  3. Make sure the "Look in" field is set to "C:" and the "Include subfolders" box is checked
  4. Click "Find Now"
  5. In the list of items found that is generated, rename ALL instances of "mfc42.dll" to "mfc42.bak" except for the one in the C:\Windows\System directory - this is the correct location for the file and the one that Easy CD Creator updates to the proper version during its installation

If the above steps do not resolve the error, please see the following ASK articles for standard troubleshooting steps with Easy CD Creator under Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT:

42-2: I am getting 'No compatible CD-Recorder found' error message (Article #990419-0011)

Description:
I am getting 'No compaiable CD-Recorder found' error message, what do I do to fix this?
Solution:
This is usually caused by a newer recorder not on the list of supported recorders embedded in the software.

Make sure your recorder is supported under the version of Easy CD Creator you have.
Check the following site for the list of supported CD-Recorder.

42-3: I'm getting a 'TrackWriter warning - Operation continues' error... (Article #990419-0016)

Description:

I'm getting a 'TrackWriter warning - Operation continues' error... How can I resolve this?

This information applies to the following product(s):

- Easy CD Creator 3.x Suite
- Easy CD Creator 4.x Suite
- Easy CD Creator 5.x Suite

This information applies to the following Operating System(s):

- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows ME
- Windows NT 4
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP

Solution:
This error indicates there was a recorder error but the software was able to recover and compensate for it. In most cases the recording process will complete successfully and there will be no problem with the final product. However, in some cases the table of contents is not written properly and the disc will not be readable.

If this kind of error occurs persistently, then you may need to have your recorder checked for either re-calibration of it's laser or firmware update.

42-4: When I push the eject button on my CD-R drive, the media doesn't eject. (Article #990427-0017)

Description:

When I push the eject button on my CD-R drive, the media doesn't eject.

Solution:

When a disc is in use by DirectCD, it can not be ejected using the drive eject button. The user must use the DirectCD Wizard to eject the disc. This is because DirectCD must write some UDF related data to the disc before the disc can eject (this just takes a second or 2).

42-5: After installing EZ CD Creator 4 Windows will not load in Normal Mode... (Article #991223-0000)

Description:

After installing EZ CD Creator 4 and rebooting the system Windows 95 / 98 may stop responding while loading and / or may display a blue screen indicating that an exception error has occurred. From this point on, Windows will only start into Safe Mode. How can I resolve this?

This information applies to the following products:

- Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.x Suite - Easy CD Creator Deluxe

This information applies to the following Operating System(s):

- Windows 98
- Windows 95

Solution:

These symptoms are characteristic of a driver conflict between Easy CD Creator and other software components and / or drivers installed on your system. Many new Compaq systems have preinstalled the CeQuadrat software for cd writing, Just Write and Packet Cd. This is not the only manufacturer to do so, but probably the most notable at this time. We have always recommended that you uninstall all other CD Recording software (including both OEM and older versions of Easy CD Creator) on your system prior to installing EZ CD Creator 4.

  1. If your computer only starts up in Safe Mode, then go to "Start" - "Settings" - "Control Panel" and then open the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel. If your list of installed programs includes products from CeQuadrat (such as JustBurn! , JustAudio!, WinOnCD or PacketCD), NTI, Nero, CD Writer Plus from HP, HotBurn, IntstantWrite, InstantCD or any other recording software package that came with the CD recorder, then uninstall ALL of these items.

[Please note: During the uninstall process you may be asked whether you would like to keep or remove shared files (e.g. C2ASPI.VXD). These shared files must be removed.]

  2. Rename the following .vxd files found in the C:\Windows\System\Iosubsys\ directory:
  3. Once all the steps have been completed restart the computer - it should now boot in Normal Mode
  4. If for some reason the system still boots into Safe Mode, then you will need to:

42-6: How do I fix a Power Calibration Error? (Article #990416-0034)

Description: How do I fix a Power Calibration Error?

This information applies to the following product(s):

- Easy CD Creator Deluxe 3.x Suite, Easy CD Creator Deluxe, CD Copier Deluxe, CD Spin Doctor

- Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.x Suite, Easy CD Creator Deluxe, CD Copier Deluxe, CD Spin Doctor, Direct CD

This information applies to the following Operating System(s):

- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows NT 4

Solution:

Optimum Power Calibration is intended to adjust the recording laser power to the optimum level for the specific recordable media you have inserted into the recorder.

Each CDR / CDRW disc contains a reference value for laser power in the preformed track which gives the starting point to the recorder to determine the ideal laser power. There is a special area on each CDR / CDRW disc set aside for the laser to power up to the level required to burn the disk. If the laser power calibration process fails, you will receive a Power Calibration Error. This may indicate that the laser in your CDR / CDRW drive may need to be calibrated.

Try using a different brand of media. If the error continues, contact the manufacturer of your CDR / CDRW drive.

42-7: I am getting ASPI errors with Adaptec CD-R software.. (Article #990419-0000)

Description:

I am getting ASPI errors with Adaptec CD-R software, what should I do to fix this.

Solution:

If you are getting ASPI errors with your Adaptec CD-R software:

First, make sure that you've only got one copy of ASPI on your system, and that it's in the right place:

1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Select Tools | Find | Files or Folders.
Search your entire system for the following 5 files:

Windows 95/98
winaspi.dll...........................Windows\system
wnaspi32.dll........................Windows\system
aspienum.vxd......................Windows\system
apix.vxd..............................Windows\system\iosubsys
*aspi*..................................rename any found unless using a non-Adaptec SCSI controller

Windows NT
winaspi.dll.............windows\system
wnaspi32.dll..........windows\system32
aspi32.sys.............windows\system32\drivers
wowpost.exe...........windows\system

3. If there are extras, rename them.
4. Reboot the system, run the program.

If the ASPI error continues:
Check the file versions and sizes.
Do this by right clicking on the file and checking Properties:

If any are different versions or zero bytes:
Rename and delete all the files found on the system.
Do not reboot.
On the CD Creator CD go to Disk1.
Execute the aspiinst.exe file.

42-8: Error message: 'Exception OE in...SCSI1HLP.VXD.' How can I resolve this? (Article #991020-0000)

Description:

After installing Easy CD Creator 4.0 I get the following error message when I put a disc in my DVD drive:

"AN EXCEPTION 0E HAS OCCURRED AT 0028:0637B00 IN VxD---. THIS WAS CALLED FROM 0028:C182A198 IN VxD SCSI1HLP(03) +00000508"

(Please note that the numbers that appear in this message may be different in your system as they represent a specific memory location and every system is not loading the same drivers.)

How can I resolve this problem?

This information applies to the following product(s):

- Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.x Suite - Easy CD Creator Deluxe

This information applies to the following Operating System(s):

- Windows 95
- Windows 98

Solution:

A backwards compatibility driver called "scsi1hlp.vxd" comes standard on all installations of Microsoft Windows 95 and 98. This driver is located in the C:\Windows\System\Iosubsys directory and gets loaded into memory every time your system boots up. This driver can be disabled by changing the extension of the file from ".vxd" to something like ".old" or ".bak." The driver is only necessary for very old SCSI 1 devices. If you do not have this hardware on your system, you can safely disable the file.

- All versions of Easy CD Creator.

This information applies to the following Operating System(s):

- Windows 95/98

42-10: Error: 'Createcd.exe is linked to missing export cdr4dll.dll'... (Article #991007-0010)

Description:
Easy CD Creator 4 reports 'Createcd.exe is linked to missing export cdr4dll.dll'. How can I solve this?

This information applies to the following product(s):

- Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4x Suite - Easy CD Creator Deluxe
- Direct Cd 1.x or 2.x

This information applies to the following Operating System(s):

- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows NT 4

Solution:
This problem may occur if you had a previous version of Easy CD Creator and/or a previous version of Direct CD installed on your system and it was not completely uninstalled. Easy CD Creator 4.0 is not an upgrade to version 3.x - it is a completely new program. This means that any previous version of Easy CD Creator and Direct CD must be completely removed from your system before installing version 4.0.

To resolve this problem, uninstall both versions of Easy CD Creator and reboot. Once rebooted, re-install version 4.0 only.

Description:
Is it possible to run both Direct CD and Easy CD Creator at the same time?
Solution:
DirectCD coexists with Easy CD Creator 3.x making it impossible to create conflicts. However, if you start burning a disc with older versions of software such as Easy-CD Pro 2.0 or earlier, or Adaptec CD Creator 2.0 or earlier, or some other third party software, then try to start DirectCD (or vice versa), you may have problems, and possibly waste your media or cause a system crash. Do not try to use both applications at the same time.

42-14: Why is all files set to Read Only when the disc is close as ISO? (Article #990419-0013)

Description:
Why is all files set to Read Only when the disc is close as ISO?
Solution:
When data is recorded on the CD-Rom media, a "read-only" attribute will be assigned to every file. This is due to the disc, as defined by the cdrom standard is cd-read only memory. Because the information is stored on the CD permanently, Windows places a "read-only" attribute on your files and directories. There is no other way to remove the attribute from the disc. Once you have copied the files from CD back to a hard drive, you will have to use the attrib -r command at the DOS prompt to remove this attribute.

42-15: The Audio CD`s I create from an image file do not have all of the tracks...(Article#991213-0004)

The audio CDs I create from an image file don't have all of the tracks... (Article Number991213-0004)

Description:
When I write an image file of tracks from multiple audio source discs and then write this image file to a recordable disc some of the tracks are missing. How can I resolve this?

This information applies to the following product(s):

- Easy CD Creator Deluxe 4.x Suite - Easy CD Creator Deluxe,

This information applies to the following Operating System(s):

- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows NT 4

Solution:
We have seen many instances where the image file is created incorrectly when using multiple source CDs. We recommend that you use the main Easy CD Creator audio layout screen to extract your audio tracks to .wav files on your hard drive and then use these .wav files as the source for your recording.
  1. Insert the first audio CD into your CD drive
  2. Select that drive letter from the upper left hand side of the window
  3. Right click on the track or tracks in the upper right hand side of the window and select "extract to file"
  4. In the dialog box that appears, give the track a name and choose the drive and folder you want to write to
  5. When all tracks from all your CD's have been extracted to *.wav drag and drop all the *.wav files into the lower portion of the screen
  6. Select create CD
  7. Go to the advanced settings and choose "close the disc", instead of the default setting "close session and leave disk open"
  8. Create the CD

This should eliminate the problem and will take up no more hard drive space than the image file would have taken. Please note that you will need to delete the .wav files from your hard drive when you are done recording unless you want to record them again.
